"Recap of the Republican Debate: Haley, Scott, and Ramaswamy Clash as Trump Appeals to Auto Workers

Seven Republican contenders aiming to catch up to Donald Trump in the race for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination engaged in a heated debate on Wednesday night, marking the second debate of the primary season.

Taking the stage were notable figures such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Senator Tim Scott from South Carolina, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

However, the debate's potential impact on the race was once again limited, as Donald Trump chose to skip the event. Instead, he addressed a gathering of auto workers at an auto parts supplier located in the outskirts of Detroit, Michigan.

Donald Trump's decision to court the United Auto Workers (UAW) union comes at a critical time, as thousands of its members are currently participating in a historic strike against the three major automakers: Ford, General Motors (GM), and Stellantis. Nevertheless, Trump's choice of venue, Drake Enterprises, a non-union company, drew criticism from UAW President Shawn Fain."
